So I was doing this quest on a new file and didn't have int 3 when I checked the table. I figured I'd come back later when I increased my int instead of paying Trix. When I came back though it just keeps saying I already read this and should ask Trix for help

Is this intentional? Can you not do the int 3 check unless you do it the first time you interact with the table? If so, it's kind of annoying that I have to pay out the 3k gold.

It is intentional. You get one shot at meeting the requisite skill check, if you fail than you have to pay Trix. 3K is annoying, but it really isn't that much money.

It isn't a lot later on, but it is annoying early game when I'm saving for the 4th bank vault and a house.

If I'd known I wouldn't have even looked at the table until I had enough intelligence. Looks like I'm paying the 3k.

I feel given one of the options when talking to Trix is telling him you'll figure it out on your own, you should be able to come back later.
