Why does Botticeli buy emeralds?

That very question comes up from time-to-time, consensus seems to be, for in-game purposes, Botticeli buys emeralds at a higher price because he desperately needs them as an ingredient for a spell or other wizardly need. Wizards are known for secrecey so Botticeli might never give a straight answer.

Outside of in-game thinking, having a merchant buy certain items at a higher rate allows for the future development of varying prices for items in a manner that can be learned through rumors.

The game isn't at version 1.0 yet, so there are still some aspects of the game that exist that are merely placeholders or set-ups for later parts not yet released.

Yeah probably some wizard thing. Either that, or rich people in Freetown secretly really likes emerald powder on their cakes. Probably a health risk, really. :p

Right now we have absolutely no information on him and him motives other than rumours in the inns that he is a wizard and using emeralds as reagents. The big question is what do you need emeralds to research/create? Right now in game all gems and most materials have no use, but after crafting is introduced we should have another clue.

Hopefully David expands on him character more but to be fair I'm just glad that he never became another NPC that just gives a quest of 3 emeralds for a reward.

Green lightsaber? Luxury dildo? Emerald powder for a royal nose? Lots of possibilities really. I personally think aliens are involved. Did you see a cow in this agrarian society? No? And I didn't. That's because of aliens, believe me...

Glass Cannon, check with rules before pulling your own please. I've posted nothing forbidden, and you probably know that. "Sexual content", lol))
When it comes to youngsters reading this forum... cmon, the game is rated 18+. And youngsters use internet, watch tv and enjoy hiphop these days, I doubt few strong words could do any harm to them.

PS: Why the crack are you picking on me? Is it something personal or what? Ever played fallout? Disgusting, right? So much inappropriate content...

I long for a world where a wizard can buy emarlds without anyone questioning his motives...

Okay, so given the poisoned river and vorator issue, maybe we should be a little more concerned about the wizard. A good side quest might be to find out why he wants so many emeralds. Might tie in well with Whitetower getting added.

Well, this is a very interesting topic.

I really think that David will develop these aspects further in the game, together with some areas as the underground floor of Lannegar mine, probably to extract bluesteel ingots or the minotaur labyrinth (so big, with stairs not working and no associated quests) just to name a few.

My supposition is that he may need them to save the life of a beloved person maybe...

I am really curious to see what will come ahead, and to see how crafting will be (just creating new items from ingredients or empowering old items too?), yet any quest associated to Botticelli ( what an artist name, lol!) wont' waste him as a money source: travelling varannari are so rare to be really useful to sell wolf pelts at a higher rate, while space is already very limited (and too expensive) to allow players to store even more stuff.

PS: Vo1d, you never learn, don't you?
