I am at just level 5 in my warrior.
He is Shield Expert and with weapon/armors from Kingsbridge armorer he can easily handle 1 vs 3 mobs and downs them quite fast.
Then i am curious to know why would anyone go for a 2H Warrior build ?.
Or 1H Shield has less dps when compared to 2H as i keep progressing ?

Both builds has pro and contras.

1H is more tanky but makes less damage. He is better for fighting crowds but less effective with bosses or enemies with high armor or resistances.

With lvl 5 you need more armor of course, but with higher level, high HP and good armor a shield isn't really necessary.

Just try both builds and decide what feets better to you. Save the game in a separate save slot and reskill.. But wait till you get a higher level, 2H is harder to play at the beginning

It is true at low level S&S Warrior is superior over 2H Warrior, because those few extra armor with the shield really helped survivability at the beginning. That is why many players playing HARD or IRONMAN Mode prefer to start off with S&S but change over to 2H Warrior later down the track. At higher level, Flurry boosts DPS for 2H Warrior significantly over S&S Warrior, and combines with Resilience and Body Development, survivability is no longer a problem for the 2H Warrior.

Some 1h pros:
-All shields decrease damage by 10%
-Later, shields can have great element resistance
-Bash stuns for longer

Some 2h pros:
-Two Handed Expect 3 will give you 10% stun chance. This is very effective.
-Whirlwind and cleave deal more damage

It's really all about how you want to play.

You're way too early in the game to make any comparisons between classes. It would be like playing a mage and saying their too weak and useless (BTW, mages become monsters at upper levels).

Shield Warriors can invest early in Shield Expert giving them a disproportionate armor for early game enemies, often getting only the minimal damage. Which makes them appealing for very early play. HOWEVER, that advantage erodes pretty quickly as enemies get rapidly tougher and start to use elemental damage. Shield Warriors will struggle a bit to have high enough damage output to make them compete, esp against bosses and other tough enemies. For your own character, see how he does against the Orc King near Kingsbridge. Results vary on difficulty as well. Shield Warriors preform a little better at Casual than Hard due to the reduced defense of enemies. Nothing like doing minimal damage against a boss to really irk own's plans.

The skill Duel is almost a must for Shield Warriors wanting to stay competitive in the mid and late game (You can learn it pretty quickly after the Fort Assault). Strength potions are pretty useful too. Infantry Training is an obvious choice (esp before the Whispering necklace was added).

There are plenty of Shield Warriors that do well. 1-H weapon builds that use Duel or Flurry can have decent damage output with some of the best defense in the game. Agility weapon builds (light weapons) can do well too. Shield Warriors makes for longer fights, which can make the game seem slower paced.

But all this has been said before in the forum to the point of ad nausuem. The game's balanced so while Shield Warriors might get a slight advantage in the early game by investing in Shield Expert, that's by no means reflects the long term balance for the build.

Umm... did you mistype?

WITHOUT a shield, the game reduces physical damage by 20-to-100% of displayed armor value. WITH a shield, that ranges becomes 40-to-100% of armor value.

So wearing a shield gives a 20% increase to the minimal armor value, PLUS the extra armor and resistance from the shield, PLUS any bonus from shield related skills (Shield Expert, Bash, Infantry Training).

I think what Zalvarez means is that the MEAN armor value is increased by 10% (60% w/o shield, 70% w/ shield). But this is not equivalent to 10% mean damage reduction (except for the special case where the received damage = armor value).

Yeah, I'm not totally sure how the system calculates but I figured 10% is a good enough estimate to help a beginner decide whether or not to use a shield. I guess this is a bit of an overestimate in most cases, because fractions of damage always get rounded down?

The Wiki explains several game mechanics, including armor:
http://www.exiledkingdoms.com/wiki/inde ... itle=Armor

The minimal damage (20% of incoming) far outweighs the rounding issue in the early game but per the Developer's comments sometime ago, the game rounds against the player. Thus for damage done to a player, it's rounded up. Damage done by the player is rounded down. And partial defense of the player is rounded down. Or something like that. It's been awhile???

Rounding damage (and almost everything else in the game) works the same for player and monsters, there's no difference. This is typed from mobile so can't elaborate more.
