What's the point of using longsword?

On the dps side, for strength based warriors it about 5 dps less then 2h sword, and loss of stun. For agility/strength combo its loss in armor with about the same(or less) dps, comparing to shortsword. Seems now even best longswords are not worth using. They need some boost to become useful. For example add "parry" property to swords and/or better critical?

I know i have not used a long sword for anyone. Apart from the start of the game. But once i got the big 2hand sword and fire ice bows even 2 handed hammer. I just sell short and long swords

Playing as a rogue, short swords are recommended, 2h swords can not be used so using a long sword, its of no special benefit rather less damage at higher levels.

For the warrior nothing beats the 2h fire sword once you get that every long sword is rubbish. And you just keep the 2h ice sword for anyone else.
All the damage long swords with death lighting poison etc rubbish.
They all have the same damage with a few extra points of fire etc
As for selling I have swords hammers that give no extra damage sell for more then stuff that do ?
Hammers are the same keep the two 2h fire ice sell everything else axes are rubbish as well
Thief\ rogue Bows fire ice that's all you need they kill everything don't even see point of any other skills max out bow skills

My suggestion for making longsword viable is to make using a shield beneficial to warriors. Perhaps a 50% chance to block each attack for half damage. The Shield Bash bonuses could be improved, longer duration stun for instance. Maybe an ability which makes sword and board "cool". Like Taunt and Tank where you gain defense, dmg absorption, hold aggro and maybe you can't attack but frees up a companion to attack at will.

Make cool shields with a strength based requirement.

The problem isn't the sword, it's the effectiveness of the board.

It's both. The problem with shields is that they don't grow in effectiveness as well as weapons grow in damage as you get to better and better equipment.

If you look at 2h weapons, an Iron Greatsword is 4-11 damage. Steel is 5-13, and Bluesteel is 6-15. All of these get multipliers from skills to be much more effective.

1h longswords are Iron 3-8, Steel 4-9, and Bluesteel 4-10. They don't grow as well, and that's a problem.

If you look at shields, the lowest shield is 1 armor, the highest is 3 armor. All the defensive skills are really weak, even for a Warrior. (for example, does anyone use Resilience? 60s cooldown is terrible).

At endgame, losing 3 armor points (and some minor resistances) to switch to 2h isn't a big deal. Losing that much base damage to switch to a shield is a huge deal.

There's also the issue that light weapons with agility do more damage than 1h weapons with strength.

David should maybe make a skill called long sword expertise just like the 2 handed expertise but instead of stun it should be like parry or counter (you get no damage and then the enemy gets hit half the dmg they attacked you with)

On next update, there will be a big boost for shields in terms of damage mitigation, and also hand weapons might get an increase in damage and critical chance.

Can't comment much more at this point... crazy busy with the new stuff.
