Trying to get to the Ashen Waste

Got in to the Tower of Tremadan, Got upstairs, did the alchemy quest to get the extra storage.
Thought that if I saw Capt Dorse down in (Friguld?), he'd give me the option to get there. (I think its option #3) but nothing shows up. Is there another way or am I missing a personality check or something?

After competing the shards of fate tremedans spirit tells you he needs time to think on it or something like that. Go do something else, grind the mercian crypt, run town hall quests, etc etc. In a couple days of game time you will get a pop up saying he needs to see you. Go see him and then after that the travel option for captain dorse becomes available.

Its actually not all that bad. There are several fixed drop locations for shards so you only have to get 3 or 4 from rumor bosses.
I don't know how to do the fancy spoiler tag but i don't think this qualifies, if so hope David doesnt slap me to hard.

In no particular order:

The boss troll in gurgoth cave.
The end boss in the jabal grotto.
The undermother or her daughter. Or both if you can beat her in her unweakened state. (Good luck with that).
Lich in the mausoleum.
The king ape in the cave in emerald valley.
In the friguld bank.
Ariam darkflames in the crypt where hirge sends you for her quest.
The abbott.

I also think the named fixed dragons have a chance to drop them. Or at least i think i got one from them.
Also i think the demon spider or the zombie dragon in the lower level of the minotaur cave dropped one to me.

My suggestion is to continue to play the game doing all side quests and exploring all areas and then run illmara town hall quests for reputation to buy the house there. Go kill any rumor bosses that pop up while gossiping for the town hall quests. By the time that's done you should have acquired 12 shards.
