Time limit?

Warning, there might be spoilers in this if you're not far enough into the game. So just putting that out there from the start.

I'm to the point where I'm collecting 12 black shards. I think it's my grandpa that tells me the enemy is also looking for these shards and they could have them all within 6 months to a year. I'm on day 225 and worried that if I don't have all of the shards soon the enemy will collect them before me and the game will end.

Can someone please tell me I have as much time as needed to collect them? I'm going to feel stupid if I wasted so much time grinding/farming and I was on a timer.

Don't worry it'll be ok. Once you gather majority of parts it will be rather impossible for other interested parties, to complete this task. All easily available ones will be in your possession.

I've collected 8 so far. Now I've been running around all the towns and just drinking my ass off to learn the rumors. This is tedious.

Must be actual game time passing, not merely sleep 12 hours/drink. Keep completing quests, and check the rumors every once in a while.

That's good to know. I've learned about several of the rumor bosses and went out to kill them. They don't always drop a shard do they? I've had a few that didn't. Still having tons of fun none the less.

Concerning your original question: There is no time limit for completing the main quest. You can grind and idle as much as you like. The statement about the enemy being ready within 6 months is just chitchat without any real consequences (yet?).

Im already 250+ days and only lvl 17 with 5 shards only being collected and nothing happend(yet?!.....)

My idea was to have a time limit, much like the original Fallout does. I could not implement it with the main quest incomplete, so I left it like that during development. Right now, if I added it, it would likely frustrate a good percentage of players so it will remain as is. One of the drawbacks of developing a game with a live playerbase, I guess.

Seems pretty straight-forward to me.

*Consider adding stand-alone adventures that are challenge/skills-based: x level, x class, x items, x mission. You could always give these time limits as well. But that's how I feel Townhall Quests are.
