1. This game doesn't hold your hand at all, ever - no matter how advanced you become or how much good gear you have you'll still get your ass handed to you if you're not careful. To some people, this is a deal breaker, while to others it's one of the best features. I'm personally one of the latter - I like hard games, I get bored if a game is a cake walk.
2. This game is incredibly well supported by David, who goes out of his way to ensure bugs are fixed and issues dealt with. I've seen suggestions implemented, and characters like the Board Trolls Swampdonkey become features of the game as a whole. This creates a strong feeling of community, and makes me feel like my contributions are appreciated, not just my cash.
3. And speaking of cash, words cannot express how incredibly incredibly awesome it is to not have in app purchases - I cannot stress how much in app purchases annoy me. I would gladly pay for more content, but I frequently delete games when it becomes obvious that the only way I can progress in them is to fork out cash.
4. Grinding is inevitable, but can be fun. Yes, at some point you're going to find yourself going back and forth between town and dungeon for days, but each time you go into that dungeon there will be different gear in the chests. The open world progressive nature of the game also means that you always have several options for grinding.
