The down side of being a Cleric

So I've started a play through as a Cleric (currently 8th lvl) but I must say I am a little frustrated.

The Sword of shock and the Icicle aren't usable by Cleric's.

I guess I'll have to hold out I'm high enough level to get Destiny or the Golem fist.

My biggest frustration with the Cleric is that both of the best offensive skills, (Arbenos' Might and Sacred Fire) deal fire damage. It makes taking down a red dragon far more difficult than with the other classes. It would be nice to see another temple (the other classes have two guild houses with additional advanced skills) that teaches more offensive skills that deal at least one other type of damage.

On a related topic - when playing either the warrior or the rogue, Hirge is by far my favorite companion (I haven't seen much love for her on this forum, but I find her ability to Heal indispensable, especially if I am trying to run dungeons for gold/xp without spending money on healing potions). I just wish that, when fighting the previously mentioned red dragons, there was an option to tell her NOT to heal it using Arbenos' Might. I also wish that we could instruct companions to avoid damaging situations - just because an Ancient Mummy attacks you does not mean that you have to sit in its poison gas cloud attacking it...

Just nit-picking here - great game!

I love this game. I use Hirge mostly. I like her healing and she does decent enough damage. I use adon when doing town hall quests for the rumors.

I've read that David is going to improve the AI for companions so that they would not step on spotted traps and there will be a better set of instructions to give. Right now you have some situations where your companion is always wrong or useless. For example: in the sea fortress, in those rooms filled with archers and deadly smoke, your companion will either stay close to you without attacking anybody or will run into the smoke and get knocked out.

I agree it should be holy fire that still damages the fire imps and fire dragons.

As for Hirge she is my go to companion for my fighter.
I haven't done a rogue yet and only just started with my cleric. I see myself sticking with Grissy for the damage to complement my Cleric though.

I do the same - Hirge for both my warrior and rogue, Gris for my cleric. I have no use for Adaon.

I like "leap frogging" companions, level up one then switch back.
I give Hirge the best gear I can spare and upgrade griss when the opportunity rises. as for Hirge healing bosses, don't worry about it she will deal a bit of damage then go down to damage. any extra damage they do can help if you can use the restoration scroll you can bring back to the fight after she goes down. they are expensive but you can build up your scroll inventory over time just don't sell them if you can use them. I don't have Adaon because he stole my stuff!!

and for cleric it's a bit of grind to lvl10 but after that it should get easier. it's the same as the other classes some enemies will own you, you just have to use your recourses and change things out for something that will help more in that situation. It's all doable with all three classes just try something different, reset skills and try some other combination or grind and level up and get lots of pots or change resistances on items. it's all doable just look around you will find it eventually and you'll have more that way too!!!
