Since more and more powerful monsters are sure to come, I would get as high as you can.
That is unless you are talking 1H builds vs. 2H builds. Of you are, I prefer killing them as fast as possible to take less damage, but some prefer to have a shield, which has the added benefit of shield expert and also the resist the shield will offer.

I'm trying to figure out if I can replace my legion gauntlets with the ruined gauntlets of might without seriously hampering my tank Griselda.
