Hello! While I realize it may be more challenging than starting with a warrior, I wanted to start a new game as a mage with the goal to build a summoner. I saw some builds for mage on the wiki, but none of them really discuss STARTING stats. Does anyone have a good suggestion for an initial stat distribution? Thanks so much!

If you wish to be a Stand User Summoner, Iron Golem is simply the best Stand summon. Lesser Summoning is a must at first, and it doesn't really matter whether you use wand or staff. But wand is personally more recommended as summoning may require more mana and there are some items that increase your mana. Max your Lesser Summoning first, and until you learn Earth Mastery and Summoner skills, build your mage as you see fit. Reset skills, and max your Earth Mastery as well as Summoner, and feel the OP power of Iron Maiden Golem.

As for the traits, try focusing on both INT and PER. PER 4 is the necessary requirements for both Summoner and Earth Mastery altogether. Summoner will make even the lesser summon a little bit OP, but Earth Elemental and Iron Golem become much more OP with Summoner.

I'd start with 2 points into INT and 1 point into AGI. INT for the mana, AGI for the added ranged damage and defense which will be important to sustain you early on.

You should get the extra gold from the first escort quest so for level 2 would go 1 AWA and either save a point or put into 1 END.

From here, if you think you will manage to get 7 rep with wizard's guild early and rush Fire Mastery then starting putting points into PER alone since you will need some combination of 1-2 more levels and 1-2 Ancient Tolassian Tomes to reach PER 3 and learn your first advanced summon. Otherwise Just remember that PER 3 is a bit of waste (this early on) UNLESS you are ready to learn Fire Mastery since PER doesn't add much value to mage on odd trait scores, whereas each point into INT is immediately useful, or AGI, or END. Then again, getting an early Fire Mastery is OP and can carry you through most early to mid game areas.

Staff is better with summoning. Staff Mastery boosts damage based on INT, which you need for MP. Also the wand knockbacks may reduce the summoned creature's damage. Wand users benefit from raising AGI and AWA to boost damage.

I go for 1 in AWA, AGI, INT and PER to start. I get better quest outcomes that way. I boost PER and INT after that.
