Start over?

So I’m only lvl 6 on a warrior. New player.

I’ve been stabbing in the dark at what to do so I have a 1h-shield and not sure I did stats well or skills.

Reading a lot that 2h is the way to go.

Questions:
1) Should I just start over? If so, I didn’t really see a build on the wiki to help with creation and progression. The one build seems heavily gear dependent too.
2) Keep going and respec at some point?
3) Any help on a starting and progressive build?

Thanks!

This really depends on the difficulty you're playing on. On hard and iron man, I would say having an optimised build is very important. However on normal and casual it isn't so much.

If you are on normal or casual, I would say build your character however you want. You'll find you can still do just fine for most of the game. If you encounter an area that your particular build has problems with, just come back better prepared. Equipment and items are much more important to your survive-ability. For example, if you keep dying to fire damage, come back with fire resist gear and potions, simple.

The one area in the game you may have to re-spec for if you aren't running an optimal build is the final dungeon. However, by that point gold is easy to come by and it shouldn't be an issue re-specing your character just for that area.

So in the end, play how you want! It doesn't matter in the long run.

Well, I’m running on casual because I don’t get a lot of time but I’d like to run a character I’d need later to learn how.

Would still like suggestions.

Thanks!

It all depends on your playstyle, experiment, read the wiki, check other peoples builds out. When I was looking for more information a great source was this threat

I just looked for patterns and the discussions on what people were saying and reasoning behind things. The wiki is a great tool to understand certain mechanics and what traits and skills are worth and what they do to be exact.

In the end on casual mode you can play anything, I had my first playthrough as a warrior, I have played as 2 handed as I was roleplaying Guts from Berserk and it was loads of fun. Personally I prefer 2 handed warrior as of the insane damage making everything easier and not dying so much as that was a problem for me at start as I couldn't workout what was wrong but after reading things and working things out and about 7 new characters I manage to workout what is worth doing and what is not.

1. I definitely recommend you, to keep playing. Early on it's rather impossible to critically harm the development of a character, and later on, you can reverse everything with respecing anyway ;).
2.
Keep going
Develop your style and preferences (you can even lead your character as a Jack of all trades, and then respec him/her)
Join fighters guild
Learn about advanced skills, their availability, advantages and so on
Make decisions and learn about the possibile outcome
Do your thing :D
3. Cleave is a must have for all warriors, bash is good, charge is sometimes useful, fury is good, but risky.
Get the best armor available, go to new garand, and start from there. You'll end up in Freetown, but that will be later.
Get a good weapon with elemental damage. Check the shady traveler, and traveling armorer ofers when you meet them. You'll have to keep about 3k gold on you for that purpose.

If you want to know more you need to ask specific questions, or check ek Wiki ;) .
