If you only need 12 shards of the, I think it was, 32 shards to remake the eye. Technically someone else could also remake the eye. Is this an over site, a plot point, or do you need the mirror stand along with the shards?

Or the other shards melt through space to where they belong.

I am guessing the mirror is special and is required.
