There is a specific crit increase for ranged from the archer trainer... poison master applies only to melee not ranged from my read of the description

Yes indeed the massive criticals works for archers and on wielded weapons as well.
Ive not bought the poison skill, but i would think that it enhances the application of poison that you can buy in the thieves guild or the shop outside the guild. This being because it says it adds to the damage and duration of the poison. Oh and you can apply poison to arrows as well.
