I would like to know your feelings about turn-based games, in which the game gets paused and you carefully select the actions from each character (example: Divinity OS) versus games like Diablo, or EK, in which action is in real time.

In turn-based games, rules are more complex, and you often control a larger party. As a drawback, probably the flow is slower, especially when there are lots of combats.

So, what do you prefer, as a player? I am curious to know, where you all come from regarding RPGs.

I prefer action based. More skill involved kiteing MoBs, dodging, avoiding, sneak attacks from behind. Action based requires more skill and if you know how to play it is way more fun than turn based. I like the idea of being in a heated battle with 2 trolls and then another troll runs into the fight as well. More realistic than engaging one MoB at a time.

Turn based for solo games, by far. Allows me to face extreme challenges without putting my sanity at stakes.

Real time for cooperative, online games. By cooperative online games I actually mean one word. EVERQUEST.

Like both. I enjoy the strategic element of turn based that tends to revolve more about utilising the right tool for the jump and group synching with abilities and positioning. But I also like the thinking on your feet and faster pace of action. I do find that tends to rely more on glitchy play or at least encourages it anyway.

I think real time RPGs are just logical sucessor of turn based ones. Real time would probably happend before, but computer power was not sufficient back there in 1980s'. When I started playing games real time RPGs were unthinkable. It was simply not possible. And I got used to turn based ones. When I played 'Diablo' for the first time in 1996, I was stunned how far computer graphics evolved. But I got used to it, and I really like both. However I didn't play proper PC game for long time. I am using only tablets and smartphones now...

But I think it's not much important wether RPG is real time or turn based. The most important thing is that RPG is good and that it has good story and scenario behind it.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out there, I far prefer a good ol fashioned game of 2nd edition DnD over any of these other choices.

Same boat here, I've played more action rpg's than turn based, but the TBS i have played i loved. Of you are looking to make EK turn based please don't. Make a different game for that David, or maybe that's what you are getting at...
