We don't have mage class yet, and this probably won't change in next month or two. However, with recent update came the most powerful (so far) mana-boosting item, and two nice (and costly) spells. So instead of waiting, I tried to create my own mage. Because, why not?

The goals of this build is to utilize the crown, and to use weapon only as last resort. It's not optimal, because i don't have undermothers hide or ring of unlife, but it's not bad either. It's also quite fun to play.

As most already know, Crown of Tol is cursed, and deals 12 death damage every 3-4 seconds. Damage is reduced to 1 with ~150 death resistance, and ceases completely at approx. 179. 1 or 2 damage isn't anyhow dangerous, but quite annoying, so i decided to get rid of it completely.

Traits

It's mana oriented build, so most points went into PER and INT. END 2 is needed for death ward.

STR: 2 (+1)
END: 2 (+2)
AGI: 0
INT: 4
AWA: 0
PER: 9 (+1)

Skills

Active

Sacred Fire III - decent fire DMG, only 6 sec reload, needed for Flames of Faith

Guardian Wolf III - makes powerfull ally, especially when used with Battle Prayer III

Battle Prayer III - first core spell, makes wolf and companion much stronger

Flames of Faith III - second core spell, extremely costly, but deals heavy spirit DMG and heals allies

Heal Wounds II - usefull to help allies, when Flames of Faith are still reloading

Passive

Death Ward III - only to keep tol curse at bay

Extra Recovery I - heavy mana usage requires more recoveries.

Nivaria's Barrier II - needed for Battle Prayer

Gear

Head: Crown of Tol (Duh).
Chest: Blessed Plate (Undermother's hide would be better).
Gauntlets: Essence Gloves (+8 mana).
Necklace: Necklace of the Depths (+20 mana and +1 personality)
Ring 1: Greater Ring of Death Ward (Gives +40 Death resistance).
Ring 2: Ring of Death Ward (I'd use Ring of Unlife, but don't have it).
Cloak: Nivarian Cloak (+12 Death resistance).
Legs: Blessed Plate.
Boots: Sharkskin Boots (I'd use ironfoot, but don't have them)
Belt: Blessed Belt of Might (20+ mana)
Shield: Petrified Wood Buckler (12 Death resistance)

Notes and Thoughts

I managed to clear Abbey with this build without too much trouble, using sword only twice. Vorators were unbeareble though, particularly Voratrix Matriarch.

Guardian Wolf could be great skill, but 180 sec reload is way too much. Also, even with Battle Prayer, lvl 12 ice wolf dies almost instantly when dealing with larger groups of 12lvl + mobs and doesn't do too much DMG. I found a bug which allows to summon lvl 14 ice wolf (summoning wolf and then entering new area turns it into lvl 14. I don't think it's major exploit, so it should be ok to post it here ), and with battle prayer it's much better companion for high (15+) lvl cleric (Deals about 25-30 DMG + 6 ice, compared to 15-20 on 12 lvl), but 180 sec wait is still too much, especially if it is killed soon after being summoned. I think this skill would really benefit from having 4th level, accessible only after reaching 14 or 15lvl, and from modifying reload time, so that wolf stays for 180 sec, but can be summoned 30-40 sec after dying.

Flames of Faith III right now deal randomly from 10 - 21 base DMG, not solid 21. If it's bug, this skill will get much more deadly after it's fixed.

Battle Prayer right now gives +8 DMG and +5 armor, but even after it's fixed it'll be great skill for this build.

That's all. It was fun to build an play, but i think I'd rather keep with my old, arbenos might and holy shield - oriented cleric :D

There are aspects of this build I like, esp given the introduction of the Hero's Omelette as an item, but not so sold on the use of the Crown of Tol...

About the crown:

Lol you know its the best for clerics..... you cant denied it.... its a strategy to build a build that isnt ment to be allowed.... thats cool.... but that the crown was not ment for that use is a different story haha.

But nice build anyway.

I like hybrid builds.... choose 1 class and build it if its a different class.

Keeping the Crown (with the curse) requires getting 180 or so Death protection, which is doable. Or just dealing with the damage. Either option has long term limitations on the character.

Yes i can agree with that however for the mana its the best and if you max death ward then you covered 36 resist already for nop in the build it self

And a cleric has self healing or use heal companion hirge healing build......
With this build van leave the crown open with 2 damage absorbtion ( can be done with even 3 damage absorbtion.... ) And youll almost never die...

In this build as an alternative to the crown i could've used bishop ring (additional +1 PER = 19 mana), ring of mentalism (20 mana), holy helm (8 mana) and spectral cloak (8 mana) to get as much mana as possible. That sums up to 55 mana, and additional 3 skill points (i wouldn't invest in death ward), but takes away nice +2 END bonus. Well, I guess it's a matter of preference here. Personally I really like the idea of wearing something that belonged to demi-god :)

I kept the crown on my "normal" build too though. With body training III and 2 extra recoveries it gives additional 250 mana and about 400 health for every run (assuming i use all 4 recoveries, which have rarely happened after lvl 16). Good enough to ignore 2 or 3 health drain every couple seconds, I guess.
