No companion or summons in the ark!

This is not talked about enough, went in there for the first time with the intent to try and just get one of those nice drops they have and lo and behold I can't have anyone with me, but I'd already committed at that point and died . I imagine I might have read about it here on the forum at some point but I'd forgotten about it. I'll try again in another year.

You can have summons with you though. The trick is to just summon them after you already went through the barrier.
But companions and hirelings are indeed not possible to bring on board.

that doesn't work they're immediately unsummoned, I tried.

Something went wrong then. Summons do work on the ark, many builds depend on them..

Were you on ironman, so you can't load a previous save?

Yep, perhaps it's room dependent. After crossing that barrier I immediately tried to summon and they desummoned. The rooms past the first probably work then.

Ah, I went back and watched the end of my playthrough, I must've been too close to the barrier, so when I hit summon and immediately went to move thereafter it gave me the barrier message again saying no one else could join and desummoned them and I misunderstood it as meaning summons just weren't allowed at all in the area, what a sad ending. I'll try again in a year.

There seems to be some confusion.

Only the main character can cross through the barrier at the ark.

That means Companions and active summons will be dismissed once you cross the barrier.

However, once inside the ark, summon creatures will work normally.
