When an intervention cleric dies, the Three intervene at the last hour and heal the priest to a health equivalent to their remaining mana (at higher levels this remaining mana is multiplied when converted). I have always wondered why do the gods take mana of all things? My leading theory is that the Three require large amounts of Mana to sustain their godlike abilities and status, magical living beings like clerics and mages have this mana in abundance and in the case of clerics, by forfeiting their mana to the Three (or Tol if you are a bit edgy
) they are able to channel some of the god's power as abilities because in the Three's eyes, the life sustaining mana they receive for granting a small piece of their near infinite power is a bargain. For a god like Arbenos, I assume a small blessing of strength to a mortal cleric is easy enough to grant if he is receiving more lifeforce.
As for mages, I am yet to come to a sensible reason for where spent mana goes. Perhaps it is added back into a pool of magic to be converted into spells or something of the likes.
