[Maybe bug?] Hirge didn't get Trait point at Level up?

Do Companions get 1 Trait point and 1 Skill point at every level up?

Upon reaching Level 7, Hirge got a Skill point, but no Trait point. Loaded a few times to check a few things. Couldn't find anything?
So do Companions get 1 Trait point and 1 Skill point at every level up, or is there an equation in the background that address the points in the background? I got Hirge at Level 6, so it was her first level-up since she joined party.

Note: screen shots show Hirge, pre and post level-up. Separated by one enemy getting killed. Note, she had 1 Skill point in standby prior to level-up.

Hirge begins with some extra allocated points. If you hire her very early, it may seem as if she doesn't get points, but in truth she got them in advance.

That makes sense, and was what I thought was happening. I've never noticed it before. Apparently, not the most observant person.
