Mage tips/builds after the update?

Hey gang, long time lurker/first time poster here and I'm loving my mage. I've been focusing on being a summoner and DPS mage. I know I need better equipment and am about to venture over to the sunken citadel in the hopes of getting some.

I'm sure he could use improvement, does anyone have any suggestions?

The first thing that stands out to me is the lack of extra recovery. By level 17, I'd suggest having at least one (preferably both) to make farming/looting runs last longer, especially considering where you're getting ready to farm. You could probably drop gate for that and simply use the teleport scrolls.

I wouldn't really suggest gate and summoner skills at that level. They are more like late game skills, probably around lv 20+. And why the 1 point in str?

Actually, extra recovery has no combat value. It's just a farmers skill.

I'm afraid radiation might be deadly for you. You might be interested in learning body development, so improve your endurance if you do.

A bit more strength might be useful to you, if you're interested in learning massive criticals, and precision shots. It will also give you more HP.

A little bit of awareness can give you a boost to DPS.

You can also get a shield just for the sake of resisting more radiation damage. Just take off your staff if you need to run, and equip it back when you need to fight, the shield can stay in it's slot all the time ;). You can choose between Red leather buckler, petrified wood buckler, sailor buckler, or even Charred buckler. Wisdom of the Seas is available in Ashen wastes.

Not so bad.

The Gate isn't really necessary, better use Mage Barrier. Earth Golem and summoner isn't a bad decision, but I would spend less skill points in summoner, use it better for arcanist (to use better staff).

Besides, I disagree with Rylocke, additional recovery isn't necessary, just farm some eggs and make a few omlettes if you need recovery, for grinding your inventory is most times full before using the 2 recovery.

Ps: try to finish Lady of the night quest and get the dark whispers Amulet! Gives you +2 AW AND stun immunity (also +50 mana)

Dropped gate for the scrolls but not doing the extra recovery as I tend to fill both my inventory and the bag of holding within the 2 recoveries anyway.

I did drop gate, but I can't give up my level 18 Steel Golem meat shield. Makes things so much easier.

I agree. I like the rest of your tips but realized I haven't found all of the shards yet so I'm not going to the sunken citadel yet anyway.

So I shouldn't have given the remains to Captain Torden? Crap, now to see how old my other save game is.

It's true, that amulet of dark wispers is pretty sweet for mage, but Magisters pendant is useful too. Many other jewels like flame pendant, holy symbol of the three, halfmoon medalion Charm of the great seer are also good. If you don't want to go against the Three, you made the right choice ;)

rocking a 2h staff without Arcane Mastery
using a Strong Summon
having an elemental attack
and on top of that having disintegrate

This consumes tons of Mana... are you having a life stock of Mana potions? :mrgreen:
If you find one of the Mana eating 2h staffs later on, the consumption will be extreme.

My suggestion:

Drop Disintegrate and get Arcane Mastery
Precision shot and the Mage barrier are pretty useful offensive passives aswell that doesnt use up extra Mana

don't take amulet of dark whispers unless u plan to tank. Just wait for your iron golem to cooldown before engaging so u will have it ready in case your companion and summon died. SirDonkAlot's suggestion is worth considering and it is my current build. The thing is having disintegrate and summoning skills means u will run out of juice in a short time imo

Why the +1 STR?

That stands out are your preparing for the +3 STR belt (to get an even +4 STR for HP bonus)?
