For some easy experience and gold head north of the starting town. There are a bunch of wolves you can kill easily and then run back to town to sleep at the inn.

Watch out for the white wolf!

Also, you get to save up tons of wolf furs and when you run into the natives (green guys) on the road, you can sell them the wolf furs.

They buy them for a much higher price than in town shops!

The captain has 2 quests, the first is very easy, the second one don't try until you are level 2.

I'm level 3 warrior, wearing every piece of armor available to me (6 total armor) and a steel mace with 7.4 dps. My health is over 100, as I've chosen 3 endurance. I've got whirlwind 2 and use it liberally, I understand how to use and recharge the healing, I have a hired merc every time I leave town, yet I'm unable to finish basically any quest available to me at this point, especially "Head-hunting" (the captain's second quest).

I'm pretty adept at role playing games and generally find little trouble, even on much higher difficulties, but I think this particular game starts out a bit too difficult. Ramping up the difficulty through levels 1-5 or so would be helpful, as I can imagine many players will be put off by the repeated deaths or need to run all the way back to town repeatedly and restart dungeons constantly.

I'm just grinding at this point to obtain exp and better equipment, so I'll work my way up there, but if others are testing the game out to determine whether or not to buy a license, I foresee frustration in their future.

What other basic quests are you having problems with? I only attempt "Head hunting" at level 5 or so, after being done with many other quests in Kingsbridge and New Garand. It is true that I have replayed it many times, so I know my way around, and it might be that I am losing the view from a first time player right now. I´d think that highest challenge early levels is the first tomb, where you are entering at level 2. Completing the quest from the loreseeker at level 2 is quite hard. Now, if you go west you´ll have another quest in another tomb to find a ring, but this is even more challenging as you do not have any inn outside to rest and re-enter, so that´s why after finishing loreseeker´s quest I travel to kingsbridge to make it up to levels 3 and 4 there.

About putting all this situation in the part where people are deciding wether to buy or not, I agree with you, it might be tricky. Maybe adding an easy level 2 quest north or east off Lannegar related to wolves could help. This way, new players will have ore choices and wouldn´t be so scared to jump into an open and hostile word that we old schoolers like.

Here is my light-spoiler general advice:

Stick to Lannegar Valley until you are level 3. Talk to everyone, including the alchemist and priest, for some easy XP. You'll be level 2 in no time. The captain has 2 quests, the first is very easy, the second one don't try until you are level 2.

Lol in my video i did the tomb quest warrior when i was level 2
Remember to sleep at inn to recharge your green healing button. It confused me at first.

Buy pieces of armor that increase your "shield", as soon as you can afford them.

When you are level 3, you can do the tomb quest (priest), and talk to the merchant in black in lannegar to escort him, that is a good quest. But don't try the insect quest at level 4 or you'll die. What you can try is to recruit your first companion, the redhead girl. You need to recover a ring, but carry some Death Resistance or you'll die to a Ghost guarding it. A potion will make it doable.

After recruiting a companion, and being full clad in leather (both you and her), things become much easier in these initial areas.

we need this thread running functionally as it should be, to avoid new thread with same question about quests or advices, for that, this thread should be updated periodically.

or can we have Q and A thread about quests. so if anyone wanna ask something about quests they can directly asking in that thread without creating new thread.

I have both a question & an observation concerning the hirelings.

The general consensus so far seems to be to the woman with the ring quest as a companion first & her quest should be doable around lvl 3 with 1 death potion. My question is how is that possible? I have 1 potion & a cannon fodder hireling, but there are so many ghosts in that forest, the hireling dies very quickly. I am on Easy, but I do admit I am by no means a Uber Skilled Player in general.

I also wanted to point out that when zoning, your hirelings always end up in front of you when the screen loads. Granted, it is nice to have a meatshield take those 1st few hits if there is a Mob(s) spawned in that location, but it is also a very quick way to lose them. :(

You should not have to deal with the Deadwood to recruit Grissenda. Her ring is found in the tomb she is standing next to. Check out the wiki if you want to know even more.

Love this game. It rather captures the best aspects of Baldur's Gate I/II Expansion for me. As a newbie, I've had good luck playing the Rogue and building up the Evade skill immediately. Here are some of my tactics (which I list as spoilers, since for me at least, figuring these out is half the fun):

With some of the harder early quests (like the Headhunting quest), I've had success stepping into a room where I know there is more than one monster, and then retreating back. This frequently draws away one or more of the group, enabling me to activate evade and then pick off monsters. (So for example, before entering the final room with the 'Flamedancer' goblin and the imps, I instruct my NPC to wait for me outside. I rush in, then retreat, drawing two of the imps out. Take care of them and then take my NPC in for the final battle.

Also one can use doorways to good effect when up against a group of monsters. Position yourself correctly, and monsters have to line up to get at you. Pairing this tactic with evade can be effective.
