Leveling up low level mage

Hi there,
I am currently playing with a lvl 6 mage and I need a fast way to level up in order to be able to do all four enclave quests in order to jpin the Wizards Guild... If you have any tips on how to do it I would be happy to hear them.
Also, is it just me or is the early game harder when playing with a Mage?

Edit: The capacities I learned are Fireball II and mana Surge I.

The early game mage is a bit squishy. Depending on your build and playing style, get pretty powerful pretty quickly.

Using a Companion is quite helpful (Griss goes well with Mage).
Using a summon is helpful. The Little Imp is decent in the early game, and helps find traps and secret doors.

The fastest way to level up in the game is to do quests.

Actively progressing the game yields the fastest XP in the early and mid-game.
