I'll start off this post by admitting that I suck at this game despite hundreds of hours (real time) of play. I watch videos of other players doing things that I am simply unable to duplicate.
I'm currently playing a level 26 summoner mage (hard) and Kalagru is wiping the floor with me. This is nothing new, as it is always very difficult for me to kill him no matter what character I play. When I finally do kill him, it's usually because I've reached some crazy high level.
So I'm just curious what the rest of you are able to do? At what level, and with what character, are you normally able to beat him. I guess I'm just kind of hoping to hear that I'm not as entirely inept as I think I am. 😔

I had a level 22 Light Weapon Warrior (Hard Mode) who managed to get through the fight by maxing Endurance and kinda abusing Body development using King of Korne's cape and having Hirge heal me as I tank and dps with potions of restoration and elixirs of galade on the side. It took 2 or 3 attempts. For summoner get your strongest summon (assuming that it is an iron golem) and spam your damage and use planar binding.

I assume you know but weapons wise:

Mages need to use the Staff of Impact from Deepfrost Glacier (the Staff of the Traveller might seem to be you friend but it is not, most of the Outsider bonus is balanced by shock resistance and Staff of Impact has a Stun chance.)

If you are bringing Hirge (or for player Clerics), Maul of Terror.
If you're bringing Griss (or for player Fighters) then Adamantite Longsword for sword & board setup or Adamantite Greatsword for 2H builds.

I wouldn't take Addy, but even so for him assuming a Light build (or for player Rogues) then Adamantite Shortsword to begin with and switch to Shadow Blade once Kalagru is down to sub 30% health. You'll do only fractionally less damage (providing Vicious is triggered) but you'll add in a Paralysis chance.

FWIW, IMHO, Fighters/Clerics do not have the same temptation to switch to Midnight at 30% health, the damage reduction is too significant to make the chance of Paralysis valid.

Thanks for the replies. So I'm wondering if you guys just stand straight up and fight, or do you use some sort of run/evade fight tactic?

Since most enemies are faster than you, I usually just stand and fight unless I'm playing something like mage which has slows and stuns, or if I'm casting a spell like healing as a cleric I kite back while the spell casts. Maybe rogue if you take sprint
