Set bonuses for equipment... think Diablo.

We already have a bunch of sets of armor:

Leather, hardened leather, forest chain, chainmail, blessed chainmail, platemail, trollskin.

A simple implementation of the idea could require all pieces of the set, while a more complicated one could give you more gradual bonuses for each item in the set you wear.

I agree. Playing a Cleric, it would totally benefit the class to have some sort of set bonus benefitting the skills or dps.

This could become very min/max though, with characters only using specific armour combos no matter what build they are. You could quickly end up emulating some MUD's where all fighters wear one specific set and all clerics another, plus it would require considerable additions of gear. If something like this was implemented however I feel the equipment drops for the sets should either be tied into quests or totally random.

My personal take is against item set bonuses. I think the fun part of RPGs itemization is combining equipment in unusual ways; railroading people towards using sets kind of defeats the purpose... most games that have this end up with players wearing "standarized" sets A/B. I guess it could be done right, only as exceptions, and making people weight the advantages of a set vs separate pieces, but in the end I don't think the coding, item implementation, etc would be worth the effort, at this point.

You could maybe implement item types normal/magical/rare/unique/quest or do a unique version of every item. Sockable items gems with effects n do like uncut/flawed/perfect gems maybe runes or something new.
