If you killed her, you need a trait check pass. I dont remember right now if it's Per 5 or Int 5 or something like it, you'd have to look at the wiki.

if you killed the undermother, have already assembled the mirror, and completed all dialogue with the ghostly figure, then you have no recourse left but the non-peaceful route. There isn't another way to learn your ancestry.

There are two ways to find out about the charater's legay.
Passing a trait check when talking to the ghost the last time he appears (when he tells you the Ashen Waste location), or doing a favor for the Undermother.
If you can't do those two, than nope, you can't find out in-game.
I think you can still get the peaceful ending, you just have to do everything else prefectly?
