Helping Vannari instead than Mercia?

this post contains minor spoilers about the game.

Hi all. As stated, I am now playing the game with a rogue while waiting for another patch. I feel like the "rebel" kind and so I would like to try different patterns that the other game with a neutral-good warrior.

I was thinking to support more the Vannari for instance by helping them to free their comrades in Jabal. Yet, even if my character is really smart, aware and charismatic, I have no better dialogue options and the only result is to get a +9 in reputation with Vannari that looks useless, a lame bluesteel longsword that is useless at that stage of the game and... nothing more.

So, maybe that will have extra effects during the development of the game but right now it brings just more troubles to me.

Any clue or advice?

That can be said for a few quest options. Helping out the spice trader rather than the Golden Hand, for example.

Yes, but that is still nice XP somehow. I am more concerned with the reputation, even because helping Jabal and Mercia through city hall quests usually means killing more vannari.
I think I will keep that "door" open so far, till I see how the game progresses with other options. Yet, it is very difficult.

I saved the slaves with my warrior but when I tried to do the same with my cleric I didn't get the option to save them and do matter what I tried I couldn't get that quest to to start.

Maybe it is intentional. After all, the cleric looks somehow more related to the human kind rather than other races and to human institutions. I see it a bit closer to the stubborn paladin from D&D but maybe it is just my mistaken interpretation.

Did you talk to the guard in Jabal first? I had no problem doing it with my Cleric.

If you want to maximize your rep with the Varannari, you talk to the guard that triggers the quest. Ask her about the "people locked in Cages", and choose the worst options possible ("I know you use slaves, but they are still people" and "You're just justifying being evil). This will get you a big negative rep with Jabal and Mercia, but some good rep with Varannari.

After that, if this is your first interaction in Mercia (as it usually is), she won't give you the quest anymore

But don't worry, just go to the townhall and pay the fine.

Return to her and she'll give you the quest now.

Free the slaves for another massive rep boost with the Varannari and a massive rep loss with Mercia

Go back to the townhall and pay the fine again, and now you can go on doing quests for Mercia once more.

Now, which to choose, Varannari or Mercia? Well, that would involve some spoilers, but I could tell you guys if you truly want to, or you guys could look at the Wiki.
