Having trouble leveling past 8...

Hello and well met! I am sorry to have to ask but I need aid in advancing past 8th level. Any mission I have been endeavoring to take has had me outmatched by level 15 Hill Giants (Easy as Pie), level 16 Ice Dragon (Important Research and Where is Giles), or just swarmed to death by Imps and higher end goblins (Turning the Scales). I only just barely came out of the Fire Pits alive and could use some advice on what path to take next without getting trounced.

Thank you all for your help.

What class is your character? Take some time to level up before heading off on the next Mission. And making sure you have proper armor and resistances for the area you are in is important too. Try the Minotars north of Jabal, most are level 9. They give good exp, and good drops. And in the Maze of Lamth, usually you are only fighting one at a time. It's possible to get over 1000 exp per trip, making it quick to level up!... I was a level 13 warrior before I could beat the ice dragon. And i still had to swap my rings and Cloak out to get my ice resistance up in the mid 80s.. try potions of strength and potions of resistances too. They can come in handy!....But try a run in the minotar dungeon for for fast leveling, and good money.

You don't need to kill the ice dragon for any quest...

Try Town Hall quests, too.

Thank you all. After that I tried killing myself and a couple of parties in the tomb in the Great Inari due to all of the traps. Adoan was not enough help and even with toxin resistance potions would not survive long enough to help with the ancient mummies after the big poison trapped room.

As to not having to fight the Ice dragon, that is true but I don'the know where else to find Icylons and I need two more living ice specimens. They are not dropping very often at all for me. Also, never tried the town hall quests; do you just go to the area vaguely alluded to and hope for the best finding what they want?

At that level I went to the Sagar forest an killed a lot of wolves. They are decent xp. Save up a ton of pelts and bring them to the Vanari trader when you find one. Also are the bandits between there on the way to New Garand.

Also, living ice can be bought from those random traveler trader dudes. 200gp each.

A few people have mentioned a gap there. Keep grinding.

The dragon drops no living ice, only the Icylons.

Orc Lair and Minotaurs are good loot. Nayau Tomb near New Garand. And about town hall quests, as the journal suggests, you can drink at inns to get more clues about your target.

Thanks, I actually found that out before I saw your response when I took your suggestion and just tried it.

Thanks again all! I'm now level 9 and hopefully the gap will end after Fort Assault.

As mentioned there is a bit of a gap in naturally leveling up. Around 7/8, most have to grind a bit for XP or cash for potions.

If you are looking for living ice, traveling merchants from random encounters do have it, but it might take a few times to find one with them. You can either make the run from KB to NG along the main road, which will give you 4 random encounter possibilities.

There's three minotaurs up around Jabal, and one of their possible drops is a Blue Steel Greataxe that you can sell for over 400 gold. There's plenty more minotaurs in the dungeon under Jabal, all of whom can drop some quality gear to sell. I still go there and clear it all out at lvl 15 to get cash for potions.

That's my chief money spot, too.
