As I only started playing this my first run through, and doing the ARK for the first time, I swear this game is developed by sadists! After running around for a few hours, dying countless time by fire explosion, I finally figured out how to get items, using stairs to save, farming reactor area. Hours in, still only got 1 Ring and no helm yet, sigh...need 2 more Rings and 1 helm and 1 more Warrior Armor before I can move on. Wish me luck :)
Great game. Loving the challenge, and I will never be insane enough to play IRON MAN mode. As if HARD is not HARD enough

Welcome. Yes I wish you good luck, the beginning is a bit hard, but you'll find out how to play it fast. The first 10 lvl are the hardest ;)

About Ironman, it's the same difficulty as hard, the only difference is the permanent death. If your character dies one you won't get a second chance and has to start a new one. The enemies are the same as on hard (dmg/resistances/etc)

Have fun, it's an awesome game!

It gets worse when you hit sewers of horrors and ashen wastes.

One of the best classic rpg game that I ever played
(I like legend of grimrock too)

It's like the good old days before every game became a p*ssy

Just compare call of duty 1 with the newest, auto regeneration, everywhere amo and so on. That's why I love this game, it is a competition and you can be proud if you solve a quest/dungeon

As noted before in the forum, David, the Developer, is an old school dungeon master who takes great joy in watching characters die.

Oh, and there's growing conspiracy theory that the awkward Companion AI is not an inherent challenges with programming NPCs, but deliberate sabotage by the Developer.

Ever notice that Adaon steps on a trap at the worst possible times? Or Grissenda runs off to fight enemies off screen when you're in desperate need of backup? Or Hirge just takes too long to heal you? Think about it.

Now, pass the Friguld rum. I got a few stories about that Invisible Swamp Donkey.....

Uh oh. Don't get me to start the game yet again, running around solo to see if I do better! I've seen each of the above examples happening more than enough.

(Since it began with World of Warcraft in 2009, I've had a terrible habit of continually starting new characters in an RPG when I find out something new. 3+ months on this game so far and I'm still only up to Lvl 14 in experience, due to all of my restarts.

Now ... a solo character. Hmmmm. What class to try it with? )

Mage summoner build is easy to play alone, but you have to reach mid-lvl, before it is really hard to play alone.

Warrior is easy to play alone

Cleric works too, but use the paladin build (Warrior guild).

Rogue is nearly impossible

Warrior is a easy on any diffeculty...
Cleric is 2e
Rogue is 3e
Mage is 4e

Althrough it depends on your build and level but still warrior wins all its a physical absober tank...

Range fighters always have a weaker in straight battles then a warrior.

And rogue, cleric, mage are range fighters ( rogue and cleric do have physical skills ) but there still putted in range section..

I kinda feel better after reading the posts here.
My mage is constantly casting the reload spell and I was stumped what I was doing wrong.
I now realise I must play like I used to play my games in the 80's.

Modern games have ruined me. ;)

Clerics and Warriors seem to have an easier time on a solo run. Warriors can take a beating and deal decent physical damage. Clerics have a few skills that make them quite durable. Rogues and Mages seem to have the hardest time, esp in the early game when they aren't powerful yet.

I've completed the Arc with solo characters of every glass. Personally, I found the Cleric to a be little easier of the bunch, but I tend to play with characters with well rounded trait spreads, which benefits the Cleric more than any other class. The only class I've cleared the Sewers of Horrors on a solo run is the Cleric. Once with the so-called paladin build (Cleric in the Warrior guild, duel is quite nice). And once with a high level wandering war priest (high level cleric in The Three, Flames of Faith and Battle Prayer).
