Game crash: Steam Deck

When I exit the door in the screenshot, the game starts loading the next area, and then the game crashes. I have tried this several times with this save, and on different versions of Proton, with the same issue.
This is the first time I have attempted to exit the this area.

Devil's Horn, room with Orrau Glass Puzzle.

The game always crashes when the loading bar reaches this point:

as a rule of thumb ANY crash has my interest and I want to look at the logs

I'm happy to say that I have a work around.

Turning texture quality to medium solved the
problem. This didn't immediately come to mind, as even low default settings keep texture quality at high.
