Dungeon monster packs need a serious overhaul.

It isn't challenging when you go up against some "loot room" monster pack with 6 to 8 monsters and 1-2 are double your level.

It isn't fun its just a huge pain in the rear . You can try pulling them with a bow then switching back to your main weapon ( as warrior) but usually the packs don't split.

The solution I think would be to either lower the pack density or lower some of their levels to below or average of your level.

Thank you for taking the time to read my suggestion and any feedback welcome.

What room has 6-8 monsters? Normally it's more like 2-4, and when it's more, it's meant as an exception. Also, find a doorway or a narrow corridor.

Also if there are monsters that are double your level you are likely in the wrong area

Well I started off in the beginning town Lannegar with goblins, then I moved over to the New Garand tombs. In the tombs I noticed that the monsters were all level (my level) 3-4 but then I found a room with Ghosts and one was level 8 and a few other guys near him were 6 and 4 respectively. I got ripped to shreds.

And there is another area in there with a bunch of high level skeletons that I can never get through. It is not easy at all. (Around 20)

Not sure what I'm missing out on here and it seems like every time you level up, every monster then scales to your level. So you never "overpower" any single dungeon or area correct?

Actually, no.

It is a world where you can move freely, but also, not all areas are of the same "level". Monsters do scale to your level, but only up to a point. Also, they don't scale in same range for all areas.

With time you'll learn what level is which area. And what is maximum level for monsters and where.

In some areas you'll be superhuman, in some you'll always fight for your life.

Not a truer word was spoken - I can imagine the bandit recruiters having a really hard time replacing all those bandits I wade through, and goblins must breed like flies. I remember the first minotaur I encountered trying to escape imprisonment at like 2nd level tearing my head off in one hit, now I eat them for a snack while farming their axes :)

One thing to consider as play testers is the game has progressed for us with a much better level balance than those that have started out with a lot more content. For example the new tomb near Freetown is designed for those lvl 14, but a player now can go there as soon as they find it and can kill the mobs guarding the entrance. They also have access to higher level gear on stores and dungeons, but there still is no substitute for higher level and character toughness that comes with it.
Ive definitely found this as i progress through the game for my 4th 5th and 6th time with new low level characters. It is much much easier to run through the game in the original order as the game was available as opposed to skipping ahead to newer content, though not impossible, it does pose a significantly greater challenge.
Nut challenge us good right ;)

Knowledge is definitely power in this game. And some of us Ekholics have an abundance of knowledge.

As a first time player, without going to the wiki or spoiler things here on the forums, a player doesn't know to go to a certain shop ASAP for the ideal gear or that one quest to make sure to get to early because the reward is awesome. As mentioned, you die if you go somewhere you're not really supposed to be.

I still run much of the game in the same order as I did on my first legitimate playthru, really only avoiding some of the tedious over leveling to deal with the unknown challenges (couldn't run the Grotto til I was lvl 12 on my first player, now much earlier).

I almost wish I could erase all my knowledge when the game gets to 1.0 so I could experience the creation thru fresh, unknowing eyes and struggle like I did when first beginning.

Yeah but our sacrifices are worth it brother... think of all the newbies who, like us, come to this game and have no clue... hey? Is there a wiki or something? Oh wow, look at all the info. ;)

lmao I know what you mean... and I wonder if maybe the mage could actually start up North, in a completely new area... that would be awesome... but also difficult to pull off... lol...

Maybe in the online game

Until then though, there are walk throughs. Or as i like to do.
Get the stuff you find in each square done before moving to adjacent squares.
If a square is too difficult, try an adjacent square in a different direction..
Works in almost all rpgs ive played.
