Cleave Hitting Feiendly,NPCs?

Did the quest to escort the seed merchant. The enemies encountered seem to be attacking my character and not the NPC. However, the seed merchant was taking a great deal of damage and dying before I could arrive at the destination. After attempting the mission a few more times i,have come to the conclusion that the passive ability "cleave" is striking this NPC.
Obviously that is a problem for a computer controlled character who insists on being st my side fighting monsters.
I have not yet hired any of the town mercenaries to assist me, so do not know if this problem is unique to the seed,merchant.
Otherwise I am greatly enjoying this game thus far, and appreciate the difficulty.

I will look into the code, if it's happening, it' a bug.

You can check it enabling the combat log tho.

I succeeded the quest today. According to the combat log Rodney was taking no damage from me. Perhaps him being a mere merchant and not an armored warrior like myself meant each jab from the goblins would subtract a larger percentage of his health than mine.

Cleave is not hitting friendly NPCs, nor ever did. this thread is six months old, and was a false alarm back then.

If janod's death was really caused by a bug in the game, please report in a new thread how exactly it happened.

But if you killed Janod, because you fought him after a conversation choice, or after dragging lots of monsters into town, neither of them is because of a bug nor my fault. Try to reload from your quicksave or autosave, if you overwrote your saves after killing janod, there's nothing I can do.
