Character Personalities

Hey again :)

I just had something I wanted to suggest/discuss.

I'm only about level 4, so if this changes later on, that's all good.

I've noticed that the "personality" options are a bit...odd?

For instance, at the start I can choose to be aloof (my business is my own) or overly friendly. When I see the group that calls me Imperi (cute nickname, btw!) I have the option of not picking up the quest, or bragging I'm the best.

The personalities don't seem to be vast or overarching and they seem to limit my decisions (for conversation). I don't see my character bragging, but does that mean she should deny the quest? There's nothing sort of like...I can see that there is one nasty option, one nice, one inquisitive...etc.

Anyway, just though I'd ask about it :D

So, you're asking for a good, a neutral, and an evil response for each interaction?

There is some merit in this line of thinking, however, the amount of rework to make it viable is likely to keep it from being realized.

Overall, the choices which are given at the very least make the story interesting and have a humorous undertone.

Some more options in key interactions would be welcome.

Of course more dialogue options would be great, but one thing I have very clear in this game design is what are the priorities in EK (e.g, what is really the game about), and it is about exploration and adventure. The rest of the features in the game will always service those two, and that includes dialogues, story or even realism. That's why at some points, dialogues are more humorous than anything else, and just present you a couple different options to branch the quest. And that's why I deliberately trim down the text and make sentences as short as possible, which btw takes more time than the writing itself.

Now, having said this, one of ny favorite games is Planescape:Torment, an RPG with the most incredible and extensive dialogues ever; you have options for everything, and dialogues are what shape the story the most. I might one day try to do something in that direction... But not in this game.

I was helping Aalandryll with the dialogue options, but he seems to be away at present, and I don't own a computer at the moment. There is quite a considerable amount of text already, there appear to be positive and negative responses to all the quests I've seen, and many of the NPC encounters :)

There could be other options, but as David has already mentioned, priority is on getting the world finished and all the bugs ironed out. When I next get access to a computer I'll do some more checking (I have a university degree in English and a work history in test analysis), as will Aalandryll, no doubt, when he returns :)

Funny you mention Planescape, I played Neverwinter Nights 1 a LOT. The dialogue in the game was also very good. Those D&D guys know their storytelling like none other.
