A perennial favorite topic for the Forum is what are the best melee weapons.
(FYI, I play the last iOS version, so not sure if the updated PC version is different.)
One set of weapons that gets overlooked (I hope this is not a spoiler) are the death magic weapons you obtain from defeating the Void Lord in the Forbidden Pit. A mace and a short sword, both of which deal big damage and also have paralysis powers. Incredible weapons.
I equip Grissenda with the short sword and then we take on anything (just about). My warrior uses whatever weapon deals the best damage for the monster/boss in question, while Griss punishes and paralyzes them with the short sword. We have demolished red dragons, white dragons, and the King of Korne with this strategy. The King of Korne was paralyzed for almost the entire fight! He was crushed like a puny goblin! I only used one healing potion during the entire battle. Same thing with the dragons. The paralysis power is devastating.
I suppose the same strategy could be done with Hirge wielding the mace, but Griss is a much better melee companion. Also, the short sword -- which my warrior does not use because of Infantry Training -- is much faster and offers several more chances to paralyze the enemy.
Granted, some monsters/bosses will resist death/paralysis, but many of the biggest ones don't -- and then these weapons are definitely the best! This strategy won't work in the Ark for various reasons, and I don't think it will work in the SOH (I haven't checked how many of the enemies there are death/paralysis resistant). But where it will work, wow, I haven't seen a more powerful combination.
Anyway, just my two cents on this question.
