What effect has Armor exactly?

I mean, it reduces the damage taken?
So, how much hitpoints it saves?

Or does it reduce the chance to take damage?
In what probabilities?

Are any details known?

I am trying to think about 2-h vs 1-h warriors and am confused about the effects of armor.

Armour alone reduces 20-100% of its value from hits taken.
Armour with a shield 40-100% of its value from hits taken.

So you are able to have higher minimum and maximum damage reduction with a shield vs being able to do more damage with a 2 handed weapon.

However it is important to note that armor doesn't reduce the damage to zero... For example no matter how much armor you have you will still take at least 1 point of damage.

Also,when you open your traits menu,there is an icon in the lower left corner that will give you the Stat info for each trait.
