Are the high level stat checks only in the final quest?

I'm lvl 18, wondering if I should get my str to 3 for Massive Criticals now, or get my AWA, INT and PER up to a good level before getting mass crits.

Edit: Also when I beat the game can I continue playing or does it end then? That way I know if I can just get my side stats up, beat the game then respec into STR.

The end-game trait checks that decide which type of ending you will be able to achieve are all in the final dungeon (Ark), except for a personality check that happens during the Ark quest but before the dungeon. It will influence your ending but depending on another choice you made in the game, may or may not be required for a peaceful ending. You can continue playing after beating the game.

This also depends on which ending you choose. There's one ending which ends game. If you want, check wiki for that ending.

I'd say beat the game first since you will find some of the best equpment in the final dungeon. It'll help you beat the other end-game dungeons. There's also the possibility of stat boosts in the final dungeon. 1 extra skill point and up to 2 extra trait points.
