Are character profiles device specific?

Just wondering if the characters are linked directly into the phone being used, as I've had to change phones and seem to have lost all my characters. I've managed to restore my account and purchase of the game engine, but not my characters :(

Oh, okay - I assumed that it would be connected to my gamer profile :( as I didn't back up before my old phone died I guess I'm starting from scratch again :( oh well, live and learn I guess :(

At the moment backup (and restore) has to be done manually. With time, David will implement automatic backup process linked with Store account. Probably before v1.0.
