2 Handed Weapon and Shield Question

I'm sure this has already been answered somewhere but after 2 hours of searching and coming up with nothing, I figured I'd just ask and hope for the best.

I see a lot of warrior builds with both a shield and a two-handed weapon, but when I do the same on my character and then check my stats, I find that the two-handed weapon immediately negates the buff from the shield, including the Shield Expert stat boost. So then... why the shields? Or am I missing something?

Thank you in advance.

You can't have 2h weapon and shield at the same time. 2h weapon means you need two hands to use it. So, shield is removed (visually it gets crossed, but still there. Maybe that's what is confusing to you?).

Try using 1h weapon if you want to use shield.

That's what I wanted to confirm. I assumed that was the case but was confused by the sheer number of builds I was seeing that included an X'd out shield and wasn't sure if there was some hidden stat buff I was missing or something.

My guy is gonna stick with shield and sword until I get to the point where switching up works better. I'm only level 10 so there's no point in doing so just yet I don't think.

Thank you for the clarification.

I think the reason why most 2h warriors still carry an inactivated shield is quite simply: it's an additional bag slot. Storage space is always precious, so why wasting this free slot if you can use for storing a unique shield, which would otherwise occupy your vault?

I actually carry both 1h and a 2h weapon, assigned to one of my quick slots on my warrior.

If you have a shield equipped when you switch you only need to click the one button and your shield is activated... Maybe a little paranoid buuuuut on my current ironman play-through it definitely saved my life a few times in situations where you are bombarded by ranged enemies + slowed at the same time.
