best melee weapon(s) - Void Lord weapons

A perennial favorite topic for the Forum is what are the best melee weapons.

(FYI, I play the last iOS version, so not sure if the updated PC version is different.)

One set of weapons that gets overlooked (I hope this is not a spoiler) are the death magic weapons you obtain from defeating the Void Lord in the Forbidden Pit. A mace and a short sword, both of which deal big damage and also have paralysis powers. Incredible weapons.

I equip Grissenda with the short sword and then we take on anything (just about). My warrior uses whatever weapon deals the best damage for the monster/boss in question, while Griss punishes and paralyzes them with the short sword. We have demolished red dragons, white dragons, and the King of Korne with this strategy. The King of Korne was paralyzed for almost the entire fight! He was crushed like a puny goblin! I only used one healing potion during the entire battle. Same thing with the dragons. The paralysis power is devastating.

I suppose the same strategy could be done with Hirge wielding the mace, but Griss is a much better melee companion. Also, the short sword -- which my warrior does not use because of Infantry Training -- is much faster and offers several more chances to paralyze the enemy.

Granted, some monsters/bosses will resist death/paralysis, but many of the biggest ones don't -- and then these weapons are definitely the best! This strategy won't work in the Ark for various reasons, and I don't think it will work in the SOH (I haven't checked how many of the enemies there are death/paralysis resistant). But where it will work, wow, I haven't seen a more powerful combination.

Anyway, just my two cents on this question.

Death is the best element against many monsters in the Sewers of Icemist! Never noticed if paralysis works on them though. Probably :)

I've played a character specialised in stun/paralysis, and you're right, it's extremely good!!! My character was Lady Xidar, a rogue wielding a Devourer's Sting (Paralysis I), and a Cursed Fang (Stun I) in her left hand. My companion Adaon was equipped with the same weapons, and we both had the flank ability (it can stun), plus I had Smoke Bomb, which I used to stun my opponents in battle. Everything combined, my opponents were left stunned and/or paralysed very often, sometimes even entire combats!

Paralysis is fun when inflicted on others ;)

I hate this....is it possible that David allow Infantry Training work with shotsowrd (sonnet, shadow blade) in next update?

No, not least because Light Warrior already have their route to replicate Infantry Training you can use Amulet of Dark Whispers, which does the same thing but doesn't cost FIVE skilk points (!!), and/or get one point of Battle Rage.

The thing that kind-of makes Infantry Training halfway worthwhile for its significant Skill cost (5) and Trait Cost (Per 3) is the additional reduction of damage from Critical Hits, on a shield/tank build that has its place but it's nothing to stress over if you don't have it.

And it's not like a Warrior wearing that Amulet, or a Rogue wearing Bloodied Scarf is missing out on any other amazing neck items. Aside from those two I'd go so far as to say the neck items are junk-tier. I mean, OK if you're wanting to max out an elemental resistance for a specific mission, but other than that I wouldn't give neck slot items the steam off my piss.

If I may continue this discussion of Infantry Training, I think the key is reducing how long your character might be paralyzed

In my experience, if you’re very careful and know when to avoid/run, your character can escape death fairly easily - unless you get paralyzed. Once paralyzed, you’re probably dead. Battle rage helps, but only for a few seconds, which is not long enough to defeat major bosses before again becoming susceptible to paralysis.

I find that if I build my character up (a lot) before taking on the next level challenges, I basically won’t be killed, unless I get paralyzed, which usually happens repeatedly not just once.

Paralysis is the ultimate killer, so I think Infantry Training is vital (also eliminates stun, which is nice but not essential). If the spirit elemental resistance were more effective in preventing paralysis then that might be enough, but spirit resistance is the worst of all of them. Not worth investing any points or equipment in, imo.

It's been said that spirit resistance is flawed and apparently it does not have effect on stun/ paralysis chance, but I gave that to all of my character and I feel I don't get paralyzed all that often...

-maybe sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't -maybe it's just suggestion like a placebo, which makes me feel like a fool for falling in a jedi mind (cheap) trick.

Infantry training is really good, but as said before, you can get that amulet, and allow yourself to wield what you please, like the Shadow Blade, or Maul of Terror.

The Amulet/Infantry Training halves paralysis, Battle Rage breaks it. Between the two of them you have a fighting chance, especially if you have Hirge auto-spamming Heal or you make her use Scrolls of Restoration.

Plus Paralysis in 1.3 has shrunk from 10 seconds to 6 seconds. I mean the standard paralysis is now just 1 second longer than it was under Infantry Training / Bloodied Scarf / Ring of Holiness. It's not the PC-butchering terror it once was.

Alas, you can’t take Hirge with you into the Ark to help fight the Parasite. That’s the only battle I truly fear. I’ve saved the game right before it, so I can re-fight it over and over. If the damn thing paralyzes me again after I’ve used battle rage, I’m dead. If not, I win. It’s pretty much a 50-50 crap shoot for my warrior. The other battles, including the SOH, are not too difficult as long as I prepare enough and am careful (I play the last iPhone version, so haven’t seen or tried the newest content). Now I save the final battle with the Parasite until I’ve finished everything else.

I understand the game likes to put my character into difficult situations. As a warrior, I must accept the price to use such a powerful weapon, -55 hp & -2 armor (Amulet of Dark Whispers vs Battle Gorget). The point is It's unfair-------As a cleric or rogue, I can get stun immunity at no cost (Conductive Vest, Bloodied Scarf). No skill points needed, neither attribute lose. Not to mention the Ring of Holiness, It's completely waste, I didn't use it even on Ironman, because Amulet of Dark Whispers was already good enough, -25hp +50mana is not a bad deal for a cleric who has intervention, what a joke...
