Combustion + elemental spells/attacks with staff/wand
Death Fog + death attacks (a bit weaker due to her shield)
Disintegration
Damage boosting potions
Having your strongest summon with you.
Stun attacks interrupt her spells.
Try to get rid of her sidekicks, get her to about half HP, and unleash your most damaging attacks. Her mana pool is quite limited, so even if you can catch her off guard, you'll probably outlast her.

@HEYYOLUC , What type of mage are you using? Summon? Staff? Whose your companion?

Varannari Hag and Varannari Witch (esp when paired with a Corrupted Sabercat) can be difficult to kill.

The witches have solid elemental resistance and can heal.

That can lead to the frustrating situation in which the witches heal fast enough that you never quite kill them.

So here are some tips:

Separate the groups. Fighting one or two witches at a time is far easier than fighting three.

Lure the kittens away. Sabercats seem to have a longer chase AI than witches. That means you can lure the sabercats away, even if you have to run a bit. Killing the cats without a witch nearby will make the fight a lot easier.

Death Resistence: Witches hit with pure death damage. So use your best death resistence rings, and using a death resist potion can take a few more points of the damage.

Element / Beast Killer: Kittens are weak against fire and have no resistance except some minor ice resistance. Thus those weapons might give you an edge. You might need to swap to a different weapon for the witches if you are trying to max out the game mechanics.

So for a mage, esp a Summon + Staff mage: using your most powerful fire staff coupled with a constant flow of summons will help. Using either a Shield Griss or a Healing Hirge will also help keep them in the fight longer.

The classic failure is to take on a group of kittens and witches at once. The witches keep the cats alive, and if you attack the witches, the cats shred you to pieces. So avoid that.

@HEYYOLUC ,

Also, just as a supportive note. The Witch-Kitten combo is meant to be brutal. So it's not a bad thing it gives you pause. Heck, an small army of demons opt to avoid the Abby for that very reason (in-game reference).

For the mage, let Griss tank, put all death resistance ON HER, quickly dispatch the kittens (no matter how many, really) with Combustion and/or Fireball, or use a support fire golem. Pure staff of fire will help a lot. Give health potions to keep Griss awake. After killing the cats, the hags alone are a piece of cake, you dont even need to use spells on her (in fact, if there arent at least 3 cats + hag, I dont use spells at all).

At lvl 21 mage (elemental) I did the Abbey as a walk in the park. I even killed the big bad demon bellow without any problems (Ice staff + combustion did the trick, as long as you lure it away from the fire and have Griss wait - just remember to bring fire resistances to yourself).

For the Abbot himself, a shock staff will make short work of him (and a few zaps dont hurt either). Disintegrate is awesome too.

Just be careful at the main hall filled with undead to the northeast; try luring them a few groups at a time, but in any case, Combustion will also easy change their undead status to simply dead in no time and in large amounts.

If however you dont have any of these spells... May the Three have mercy on your soul...

At Level 21, the game should be walk in the park. That's end-game, super-build levels.

Most new players wills stumble into the Abby in the low teens for the first time. A Level 13 character is going have a very different set of equipment and skills available than a Level 20+.

I absolutely agree, it's just that the guy above said he was having Hag troubles at lvl 21 Mage, which is why I found it strange, it should be pretty easy by the lvl.

At lvl 13 that place would be a living nightmare
