Hello, I am currently playing with a level 6 rogue and I don't understand how weapon speed, damage and DPS exactly work.

Of course I know what DPS is, damage per second. But with a Thief's Blade my DPS is higher than with a Steel Longsword, even if the longsword has a higher damage. Should I only care about DPS and ignore the other weapon stats?

And if yes... the inevitable questionis: Why are they there at all? can't you just show the weapon's DPS and be done with it? :)

I've read in another quest that you're adding fire/ice/etc weapons and armors. That's great. I'd like to see a poisonous dagger.

Finally: great game, I love the twists in the quests, and how the backstory unfolds, without actually having to read too much. I am really eager to talk to everyone because many conversations are witty and unexpected. But the two cities to the west of the river... ain't them a bit "sketchy" and empty? there isn't barely any NPCs or quests there. Probably still in progress ?

that's all :)

A fair question :)

DPS is the most important thing to take into account, but not the only. If all enemies had zero armor and resistances, yes, DPS would be enough to determine which weapon is the absolute best.

But with a high-armor enemy, like the Giant Ants, or even zombies, a lot of damage is reduced from each blow. Imagine a monster substracts 5 damage per blow. If you attack an enemy twice for 6 damage, you'll only hit for 1 and 1, for a total of 2 damage. But if you hit only once with a weapon that does damage 9, you'll hit for 4 damage. So in that scenario, a slower, heavy-hitting weapon is better, even with a worse DPS.

As new rules and magical effects are implemented, fast weapons or slow weapons may have other advantages/drawbacks. Increasing your critical chance and improving your critical damage will have more effect in faster weapons.

yes, yes and yes. sketchy, empty and in progress! There will be much more content in version 0.4, you'll see.

Then DPS is rather misleading because (I guess) most monsters have an armor value.

You should consider showing a DPS calculation that takes into account some armor, an average value based on level. Because otherwise it's never accurate.

Although it could be more confusing, I don't know.

While I see your point (and yes, most monsters have Armor>0 so DPS is never accurate) including in the calculation an "estimated" armor value would make it even more confusing, IMHO.

I think all games out there show DPS without monster mitigation.
