I noticed once you start a companion quest you can't remove your partner from your team. For instance, once I entered Port Malan to speak with the uncle I could no longer remove Adaon.

What would happen if you did the Freetown arena quest where you're forced to remove your companion, with the important quest still active, and then you try to do the quest without your companion (or even a different one)? Just curious.

Nothing bad should happen, and in theory you can remove Adaon once you are away from the region.

The idea was not allowing the player to dismiss companions in places like the prison, where dialogues assume he should be there. But go north to Nilomar and you can dismiss him.
