cleared entrance level and reactor, found scalpel maul and bow twice but not the sword.... is it a random drop or did i miss a chest?

Random drop. Just keep going back, it'll turn up. Took me like 8 times to get the Ion Recurve, but it'll drop eventually.

It's a random drop, you have to grind.

Best way for grindig ark: clear main floor, rest at medical bay near staircase, clear Reactor, rest again, clear maindeck, rest, clear Reactor...

(you don't have to rest if you have enough health)

Ps: finding the gloves took me 3 days grindig (leveled twice!)

Good luck with the mage! They're squishy to start but get pretty destructive later.
